The mission of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences is to discover, advance, and disseminate knowledge about weather and climate for the benefit of the people of Utah and the wider international community. We strive to be the premier program for atmospheric research and education in the Intermountain West and a top-ranked program nationally and internationally. Conducting world-class research and pursuing major scientific challenges in the atmospheric and related sciences are cornerstone activities for our faculty, staff, and students. We educate young scientists for successful careers in the atmospheric and related sciences and view enhancing the weather and climate literacy of students and the general public to be an urgent societal need. We encourage participation in community and professional service, as well as civic dialogue on matters related to weather and climate.
